Texas Wesleyan will host graduation exercises at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the Will Rogers Auditorium, 3401 W. Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth. The precommencement robing ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Polytechnic United Methodist Church, 1310 S. Collard St., Fort Worth. The Texas Wesleyan School of Law commencement and hooding will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at First United Methodist Church, 800 W. 5th St., Fort Worth.
Lieutenant Christopher Combest, BA '00, will deliver the commencement address for Texas Wesleyan. Combest graduated with a degree in English and soon after graduation became a senior account executive and communications advisor to local political and civic groups, and incumbent elected representatives.
His career took a sharp turn on Sept.11, 2001, when his response to the terrorist attacks was to join the U.S. Armed Forces. Combest enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Commissioned Officer Candidate at the grade of E4. After basic training and Officer Candidate School, Combest was commissioned a Second Lieutenant into the Armed Cavalry.
His platoon, the “Red Hooligans,” served with distinction in combat in Iraq. Combest’s proudest achievement was that all of his men made it home alive despite the danger of their missions and the hostile environment surrounding them. Every single man under his command received commendation awards for their exceptional service, with the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge being personally awarded to Combest.
He is still on active duty and stationed in Texas. In addition to his military duties, Combest was recently appointed by Mayor Mike Moncrief to the Fort Worth City Planning Commission as the District One Planning Commissioner. He is also a committee member of the Greater Dallas Veterans Day Parade and the Dallas Military Charity Ball.
