THEATRE WESLEYAN PRESENTS EDUCATING RITA

 

Photo of main characters in Educating Rita gazing fondly at eachother.A cynical, burned-out literature professor finds a new outlook on life in Educating Rita, presented Nov. 9-19 by Theatre Wesleyan. The play follows Rita, a working-class woman, as she and Frank, the professor, discover that there can be more to education than conformity and memorization; Frank teaches her to see things in a new way.

 

The Educating Rita cast includes senior theatre major Erica Heebner as Rita and senior mass communications major Ben Phillips as Frank. Jeanne Everton, associate professor of theatre, directs. Educating Rita is written by Willy Russell.

 

The production will run Nov. 9-11 and 16-19 in the Thad Smotherman Theatre, located in the Law Sone Fine Arts Building, 1205 Binkley, on the campus of Texas Wesleyan University. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19.

 

Special ticket offers include free tickets for Wesleyan faculty and staff on Friday, Nov. 10; and Two Dollar Thursdays: all tickets just $2 Nov. 9 and 16.

 

For other performances, tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for Wesleyan faculty and staff, and $4 for students with ID. Discounted rates are available for groups of 10 or more. The Box Office will be open beginning Nov. 7, Tuesday through Friday 1:30 – 5 p.m. Tickets can be reserved by calling (817) 531-4211.

 

The Educating Rita production team includes Wesleyan alumnus Bryan Stevenson, technical director and lighting designer; Brynn Bristol, instructor of theatre, scene and costume designer; Rob Carroll, sophomore theatre major, properties designer; Alfredo Martinez, sophomore theatre major, sound designer and Max Marquez, junior theatre major, stage manager. Alumna Beth Hargrove is graphic designer and Theatre Professor Connie Whitt-Lambert serves as production coordinator.
