TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TO HOST SCIENCE AND MATH CONFERENCE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS

Texas Wesleyan University will host the eighteenth annual Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics conference for middle school girls from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Sid W. Richardson Center, located at 1100 S. Collard. Participants do hands-on activities in workshops presented by professional woman in the science or mathematics fields.

Parents and teachers are invited to volunteer at the conference and/or attend the adult workshops, scheduled to take place during the student workshops. The adult workshops will include All About College, Heart Healthy, and Math/ Science Activities.

Expanding Your Horizons stresses the value of science and math and seeks to increase young women’s interests in these fields. The program provides approximately 350 students with information about career opportunities and helps participants develop and discover their own interests and talents. It also aims to provide young women with science or math-related, female role models.

The conference is $5 per person and includes conference activities, a morning snack, lunch and a T-shirt. Attendance is limited and registration is required. For more information on registration, contact Dr. Jane Moore, Texas Wesleyan University conference coordinator, at (817) 531-4882 or jamoore@txwes.edu.
