FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

22nd ANNUAL LABORATORY PARTICIPATION DAY

Texas Wesleyan science, computer science and math faculty provided 50 high school students, accompanied by eight of their teachers, with hands-on, laboratory activities in Wesleyan facilities in November. Students came from 11 area schools, and each student conducted experiments in two different areas, involving biology, chemistry, computer science, and physics.

Every student participant was nominated specifically for the program, to identify those who best could benefit from stimulation of interest in science. The Laboratory Participation Program has been conducted in most years since 1982.

The Texas Wesleyan math and science departments sponsor a variety of programs for area students, including Upward Bound, TexPREP, Chemistry Camp for Kids, Chemistry Magic Shows, and Expanding Your Horizons, an annual math and science conference specifically for middle-school girls.

Texas Wesleyan also participates in teacher training programs for biology, chemistry, and math teachers. Click here to read about a biology group's expedition to Mexico to tag and research Monarch butterflies.
