TEXAS WESLEYAN HOSTING NATIONAL TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT APRIL 8-10

 

 

Last month, the Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team brought home the national championship. This weekend, the Wesleyan table tennis team will be shooting for their third consecutive national title.

 

Texas Wesleyan will host more than 30 teams from across the United States and Canada during the three-day tournament, which runs Saturday to Monday, April 8-10, in the Sid W. Richardson Center gymnasium, 1100 S. Collard. The 2006 Clear Channel National Collegiate Table Tennis Championships will feature teams from Princeton, Harvard, Kentucky, USC, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Toronto, Baylor, Tarleton State and many others.

 

This is the second consecutive year that Texas Wesleyan has hosted the national tournament. Play begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 8, and continues until 10 p.m. The tournament continues 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, April 9, and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday, April 10.

 

Texas Wesleyan’s women’s team will be led by the nation’s No. 1 player, Jasna Reed, an Olympic Bronze Medalist (http://www.txwes.edu/tabletennis/JasnaReed.htm). A native of Croatia, Reed will be joined by Sabrina Worrell, daughter of the Prime Minister of Barbados; Johnese Evans of Jamaica; and Kareema Styles of Nassau, Bahamas.

 

Eric Owens (http://www.txwes.edu/tabletennis/ericowens.html) , the state’s No. 2 player, will lead the Texas Wesleyan men’s team, which has players from the United States, Romania, Mexico, Jamaica, Croatia, India and Ghana.
