FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WESLEYAN SINGERS CELEBRATE THE SEASON

Wesleyan Singers, Texas Wesleyan University’s premier choir, will present a Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Martin Hall. The performance is free and open to the public. Under the direction of assistant visiting professor Mark Stamper, the choir will bring some of the classics of the season and timeless works by some of history’s favorite composers.

The featured works of the concert are Vivaldi’s Gloria, and selections from Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. The Gloria, which features soloists senior Stephanie Kelly, sophomore Stephanie Darbo, and senior Colleen Burnie, will be accompanied by professional wind and string players from all over the Metroplex. The selected works from Ceremony of Carols include the fiery This Little Babe and the sweet Balulaow with soloist soprano Julie McCoy, associate professor of music at Texas Wesleyan.

Opening the concert will be Wesleyan’s small performing ensemble Trouveres performing two of the holiday’s finest carols: Bring a Torch Jeannette Isabella, and a new arrangement on Away in a Manger titled A Day in a Manger.

In addition to the major works, Wesleyan Singers will also be performing a lively twist on the classic Christmas song Jingle Bells, and a beautiful arrangement of the church anthem While Shepherds Lately Knelt. All members of the community are invited to join in the occasion and start their holiday season with the beautiful music that the Wesleyan Singers and Trouvères offer.

Martin Hall is located at 1309 Wesleyan St. at the northeast corner of Rosedale Street and Wesleyan Street on the Texas Wesleyan University historic campus.
