COMEDIAN, ACTOR MARK CURRY TO LECTURE AT TEXAS WESLEYAN

Marc CurryComedian and actor Mark Curry, best known as the star of the TV sitcom “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper,” will be the featured speaker during the 2006 Willson Lecture Series at Texas Wesleyan University. He will talk about overcoming obstacles and living your dreams. Curry’s lecture will focus on growing up in the inner city, using his comedy to get ahead, and coming out on top.

The lecture will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in Martin Hall, which is located in the Ann Waggoner Fine Arts Building, 1309 Wesleyan St. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the chaplain’s office.

In addition to his sitcom, which ran for five seasons on ABC, Curry is also known for hosting “Showtime at the Apollo.” He had a recurring role opposite Kirstie Alley in Showtime’s “Fat Actress” series and he played an NBA correspondent in “ESPN’s Cold Pizza.” His current projects include appearing in the new season of Def Comedy Jam on HBO.

The annual Willson Lecture Series are made possible by a gift from the late Mavis Terry Willson and the late J.M. Willson of Floydada, TX. In 1946, the Willsons provided an endowment to bring outstanding speakers to campus. Through the years, these speakers have delivered messages that have challenged and inspired thousands of Texas Wesleyan students, faculty and staff.
