Program Overview
Bella Italia: Music Travel & Enrichment is a course designed to introduce students to Italian arts, history, geography, and language. In preparation for travel, students will study Italian music (including individual and ensemble performance), art, and architecture from ancient to modern times. Students will also learn to employ basic Italian phrases for travelers. The course will culminate with a 9-day study-tour to Venice, Florence, and Rome. Highlights will include: Venice – St. Mark's Basilica, Murano Glass Factory; Florence – Galleria dell' Academia/Michaelangelo's David, Uffizzi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio; Rome – Vatican Museum, St. Peter's Basilica, sites of Ancient Rome; Italian food! [Please be aware that portions of the itinerary include boarding trains and small boats as well as walking distances on rough streets (in Venice, for example)

Transportation
Texas Wesleyan will provide air travel for students from DFW International Airport to Venice and returning from Rome. Our travel partner will provide ground transportation in Italy throughout the Study/Tour using a touring coach or via local trains.

Housing and Meals
Housing is provided throughout at 2+ star hotels in Italy. Most breakfasts and some dinners provided.

Program Overview
The objective for the Scotland Heritage Study Tour is to offer the courses listed above in a setting which will maximize the educational value of the courses for students and to do it at a time which will minimize the cost to you. The courses will enable you to learn about the history of the Scottish people and nation, focusing especially on their religious and political heritage. We will also consider their interaction with politics and economics in the development of the modern nation of the United Kingdom. And much of the study will be done in the place where most of the events happened--the United Kingdom, Scotland in particular. You will be able to visit many of those places you read about in their textbooks and in other writings. You will also gain the experience of meeting persons from another contemporary culture while studying an earlier period of the history of that culture. While the Humanities course will address the same ideas, expressions and events as the those sections of the course taught on campus, special attention will be given to Scottish writers, philosophers, artists and scientists who were leaders this period of history.

Dr. Jesse Sowell Dr. Jesse Sowell, Professor of Religion and Christian Education, joined the faculty of Texas Wesleyan in 1975. He received his B.S. from Mississippi State University, his B.D. from Emory University and his PhD from Northwestern University in Religious Education. Prior to coming to Wesleyan he served pastorates in Mississippi, Georgia and Illinois; and he served as chaplain and taught religion, philosophy and psychology at Wood Junior College in Mississippi. He is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and former president of the United Methodist Association of Scholars in Christian Education.

Texas Wesleyan will provide air travel for students to and from DFW International Airport to Manchester, England. Our travel partner will provide ground transportation in Scotland throughout the Study/Tour using a touring coach or hired minibus.

Housing and Meals
Housing is provided throughout at guesthouses and B&B guesthouses or hotels with linen and maid service. Breakfast and one other meal is also provided daily. Rooms will be shared.

Program Overview
Our modern life has a past that is still present in France and Spain. As students of the humanities, art, and photography we will walk through history inside the medieval walls of Avignon, taste life in multi-cultural Barcelona on the Mediterranean, and then rush forward via the über-tech bullet train into modern Paris. For 8 days we will take walk medieval streets of Avignon where the Popes took refuge and artists sought perfect light, taking daytrips to the Pont du Gard and the Roman arena at Nimes, the city of Arles, where Van Gogh painted, and bicycling through in countryside that inspired painter Cezanne. With four days in Barcelona, we will explore our cultural heritage through unique architecture (including Gaudi's Sagrada Familia), art (Picasso, Miro, and Dali) and the Flamenco dance. Our last four days are in Paris where we will see the Eiffel Tour, Louvre, Notre Dame cathedral, and take a night cruise on the Seine.

Time has been reserved for students to explore and discover sites of personal interest. Coupled with class discussions, journaling and art-making in our atelier, we will synthesize the ancient and the modern.

Program Overview
Study Spanish language and culture in one of the most beautiful countries in the world . . . ¡Costa Rica! Explore the verdant cloud forests and tropical coastlines of the Central American country while immersing yourself in the Spanish language. You will discover a country of friendly people and breathtaking scenery. The mountainous landscape is dotted with volcanoes, cascading waterfalls, and rushing rivers. Costa Rica is situated between two coastlines, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, giving it miles of stunning seashore that supports an amazing array of sea life. It is considered one of the best places in the world to study Spanish due to the clear and enjoyable accent of its inhabitants. You will live in the cool highlands of Costa Rica in the beautiful city of Heredia, known as the City of Flowers. Heredia is located only 20 minutes from the capital city of San Jose, yet retains the atmosphere of a smaller Costa Rican town. Heredia provides a wonderful mix of old and new and is the perfect place to study Spanish and explore Costa Rica.

Program Overview
This program will provide professional counseling, marriage and family therapy students and school counseling students with hands on experience and observation opportunities in the solution focused and narrative therapy models at a well-respected training agency in London.  Chris Iveson, Harvey Ratner, Evan George will provide the solution focused training and Mark Hayward and Amanda Redstone will provide the narrative therapy training. All courses are under the instruction and supervision of Linda Metcalf, Professor at Texas Wesleyan University. The BRIEF Therapy Practice Agency is world renowned and is composed of highly qualified instructors whose work has been published and presented internationally. By experiencing such expertise first hand, students will not only be given a chance to have one on one conversations with the trainers and their work, but they will also experience the cultural context in which their practice developed.

The primary goal of the Gilman Scholarship is to serve students traditionally underrepresented in US Study Abroad. A key eligibility requirement is that the applicant must be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application. Applications are due December 15 and April 15 for the following semester.
