The Wesleyan Fund

Texas Wesleyan University has a great tradition of helping students succeed, thanks in part to support of The Wesleyan Fund. In previous years, donations to The Wesleyan Fund helped fund general operating expenses.  As we move into a new era of continued excellence, The Wesleyan Fund will be dedicated solely to providing institutional scholarships for our students as they pursue their degrees from Texas Wesleyan University.  Please consider the impact your financial support will mean to Wesleyan students like Nikkina Robinson.

Texas Wesleyan University is lucky to have a student like Nikkina Robinson. Nikkina is one of those rare students who has known who she is and where she is going since early childhood. The alumni scholar and science major is thriving at Texas Wesleyan because of the outstanding educational and extracurricular opportunities that abound here, coupled with her focus, organization and hard work.

We are also lucky to have alumni and friends like you who make it possible for Nikkina and others like her to receive a Texas Wesleyan education. Because you give, they can realize their full potential and become contributing members of the world community.

 Here is Nikkina’s story.

I began studying at Texas Wesleyan when I was nine years old. Not as a freshman, but at Chemistry Camp, where I spent two weeks in third and fourth grade learning fun science experiments. So when the opportunity arose to study at Texas Wesleyan after high school, I was thrilled that I could pursue a degree at such a great school. I knew a Wesleyan degree would move me toward a career in the sciences and allow me to continue my lifelong dream of becoming a pediatrician. And when I learned of the many outstanding campus organizations and extracurricular activities, I was hooked. As a senior, I realize that my Wesleyan experience is preparing me for leadership roles so I can contribute to my community, my country and the world.

Everyone at Texas Wesleyan is interested in my success. From professors to alumni to administrators and staff, every day I receive the support I need to grow academically and personally. I learn from committed professors who offer personal attention but require academic excellence. In Wesleyan’s smaller classrooms, you can’t hide in the crowd. As a result, I have developed strong relationships with faculty and peers who hold me accountable to be the best I can be.

However, the encouragement doesn’t stop there. I have been fortunate to interact with Texas Wesleyan alumni who continue to offer encouragement and advice. For me, success is trying harder, staying organized, participating as much as possible, and giving back to the University and the community. Alumni mentors Jimmy Madison ’74, Caroline Bruner Gary ’93, and Daphne Brookins ’01, exemplify the success and compassion to which I aspire. Their dedication to Texas Wesleyan is apparent in their financial support, and I want follow in their footsteps and help students who follow me.

Texas Wesleyan University has become a tradition in my family. Like my four cousins before me, I enjoy the same personal education and opportunities they experienced. I will be the first in my immediate family to graduate from college, and I will take with me lifelong friendships with people whose values and stories have changed my life.

My academic success is possible thanks to Texas Wesleyan alumni and friends who believe in a university that offers excellence within reach and believe that all of its members should have freedom to pursue independent thought and exercise intellectual curiosity.
