Head Coach: Josh Gibbs

Josh Gibbs took the helm of the Texas Wesleyan men’s soccer program in 2006.  In his first season he displayed the leadership and ability necessary to cultivate and maintain Texas Wesleyan’s winning tradition.

In his first season as head coach at his alma matter, Gibbs led the Rams to six wins and an appearance in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.

In his first game he led the Rams to a 0-0 tie through two overtime periods against a very strong West Texas A&M team. After starting the season 2-7-2, Gibbs’ Rams rattled off four straight wins to reach the conference semifinals.

When he took the head coaching job at Texas Wesleyan, Gibbs renewed a long relationship with the school. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan in 2003 after playing for three seasons. During his playing career, the goalkeeper was a 2nd-team All-RRAC selection in 2002. He transferred to Texas Wesleyan after one season at Huron University where he was an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American selection.

His coaching career also began at Texas Wesleyan. Gibbs served as an assistant coach for one season, prior to playing in his senior year.

Gibbs joined the Wesleyan staff after serving as an assistant coach for the Baylor University women’s soccer program. He also worked toward his Masters degree while at Baylor.

Gibbs resides in Arlington with his wife, Jessica.

Assistant Coach: Gaspar Martinez

Gaspar Martinez begins his fourth season as assistant coach for Texas Wesleyan. He also currently serves as the director of coaching for the Texas Development Acadamy.

Martinez has had previous coaching experience as an assistant at Richland College from 2001-02. In the prep ranks, he was an assistant at Nolan Catholic High School and junior high head coach at Fort Worth Country Day School. He was also a head coach in the Dallas Texans South Soccer Club for seven seasons and was the director of development for Legend Soccer Club from 1993-98.

He currently resides in Arlington with his wife, Sheila, and their two sons, Aidan and Julien.
