POST GAME AUDIO: Head
Coach Steve Jones
FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior Jessica
Carrion scored in the 18th minute of the game, but Eastern New Mexico
tallied three unanswered goals to defeat Texas Wesleyan, 3-1, in
the Lady Rams' season opener Friday afternoon at Martin Field.
Texas Wesleyan (0-1) put the pressure on
Eastern New Mexico (1-0) early with Carrion's goal off of a cross
from sophomore Rose Fernandez.
The Zias fought back just two minutes later
when Megan Dozier scored on a breakaway in the 20th minute. Karly
Parkans then put the game away in the second half with two goals
for the final margin.
Eastern New Mexico outshot the Lady Rams,
9-7 for the game and 6-1 in the second half.
"We started off nice, but lost the
intensity after we scored our first goal," head coach Steve
Jones said. "We have a lot of new faces and the communication
between the players is just not there yet."
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action when
they play host to Oklahoma Christian at Martin Field. Game time
is set for 1 p.m.
