POST GAME AUDIO: Head
Coach Steve Jones
FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Wesleyan
scored five second-half goals en route to a 7-0victory over Oklahoma
Christian, Saturday afternoon at a soggy Martin Field.
Texas Wesleyan (1-1) opened the scoring
in the 21st minute, when freshman Loren Clark put one past the goalkeeper
on a great pass from junior Jessica Carrion to put the Lady Rams
ahead, 1-0.
Clark added another goal in the 36th minute on a breakaway to make
the score 2-0 at halftime.
Texas Wesleyan put the game away in the
second half, pouring in five goals. Carrion tallied two goals, while
sophomore Rose Fernandez posted two of her own. Junior Jessica Killen
capped off the scoring with a goal in the 86th minute.
"The girls played well," head
coach Steve Jones said. "They came out with a lot of intensity
and finished well. Once we started getting a lot of chances on goal,
the other team gave in."
The Lady Rams outshot the Lady Eagles,
16-2, and controlled the pace of play for the entire game. Sophomore
Nicole Richardson was also a bright spot for Texas Wesleyan, assisting
on three goals.
"This was a good confidence builder
for the girls and they really worked hard," Jones said.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Friday
when they play host to UT-Tyler at Martin Field. Game time is set
for 3 p.m.
