DALLAS, Texas. - The Texas Wesleyan
volleyball team opened its 2004 campaign with a 3-0 victory over
UT-Dallas, Wednesday evening at the UTD Activity Center.
Texas Wesleyan (1-0) controlled the
flow of the match the entire night, defeating the Lady Comets, 30-15,
30-18, 30-12.
"The girls played well for their
first match of the season," head coach Rick Johansen said.
"We got off on the right foot tonight and all of the girls
chipped in for the victory."
Senior Kat Williams led the way with
12 kills, 12 digs, and three blocks.
"Kat played a good all-around
game tonight," Johansen said. "She is finally at 100 percent
after playing hurt the entire last season."
Junior Rachel Loftin and senior Nicky
Davis both registered nine kills, while senior-transfer Becca Broussard
chipped in with seven kills. Junior Susan Taylor led the Lady Rams
with 17 digs, while senior Courtney Johansen led the team with 28
assists. Loftin and Johansen both had two service aces in the match.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Friday
when they begin a two-day tournament hosted by College of the Ozarks.
The Mazzios College of the Ozarks Tourney will involve the Lady
Rams in five round-robin matches beginning with an 11 a.m. matchup
against Evangel in Point Lookout, Mo.
