POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - The Texas
Wesleyan volleyball team won three matches during the first day
of the Mazzios College of the Ozarks Tourney on Friday.
Texas Wesleyan (3-0) defeated Evangel,
40-38, 30-22, 25-30, 30-17, in a highly contested match. The Lady
Rams followed that up with 33-35, 30-23, 20-30, 30-26, 15-10 victory
over Morningside College and a 30-27, 30-24, 30-13 victory over
tournament host College of the Ozarks. In the final game of the
evening, junior Susan Taylor tied a school record with 40 digs.
The Lady Rams were led by senior Kat Williams
who totaled 34 kills on the day and senior Becca Broussard who chipped
in with 32 kills for the session.
Taylor finished the day with 91 digs in
the three matches, while senior Cortney Johansen provided the team
with 148 assists for the day.
"The girls fought through some adversity
today," head coach Rick Johansen said. "Down two games
to one, we were able to come back. Last season we were not able
to do that. The upperclassmen stepped up today and carried the team
on their shoulders."
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Saturday
when they play its final two games of the tourney at 9 a.m. versus
John Brown, and at 1 p.m. versus Mid America Nazarene.
