FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior Jessica
Carrion scored three goals for her first hat trick of the season
to lead Texas Wesleyan past UT-Tyler, 4-2, Friday afternoon at Martin
Field.
UT-Tyler (0-1) put a scare into the Lady
Rams, when they scored 30 seconds into the game. Leigh Garner scored
on a one-timer off of a corner kick from Jana Cruce to put the Lady
Patriots ahead early, 1-0.
Texas Wesleyan (2-1) fought back in the
seventh minute, when sophomore Nichole Richardson recorded her first
goal as a Lady Ram from 18 yards out to knot the score, 1-1.
Carrion increased the lead with two goals
in the 16th minute and the 35th minute on assists from sophomore
Rose Fernandez and freshman Loren Clark, respectively.
The Lady Patriots inched closer in the
53rd minute when Cara Janton scored on another corner kick to cut
the deficit to 3-2.
However, Carrion put the game out of reach
in the 86th minute, one timing a pass from Richardson for the final
goal of the match.
"We are having a hard time finishing,"
head coach Steve Jones said. "We need to be able to put a game
away. We are letting the other teams hang around."
The Lady Rams outshot UT-Tyler, 19-8, and
sent 12 shots on goal. Freshman Holly Rowland got her first victory
for Texas Wesleyan allowing two goals, while making a save.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Saturday
when they play host to Northwest Oklahoma State at Martin Field.
Game time is set for 4 p.m.
