WORTH, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan battled Sooner Conference member NW Oklahoma
State to a 2-2 tie, Saturday afternoon at Martin Field.
NW
Oklahoma State (0-0-1) got on the board first, when Chelsea Lawson beat Lady Ram
goalkeeper Jennifer Arellano on a one-on-one in the ninth minute. Leslie Foster
provided the assist for the Lady Rangers.
Texas
Wesleyan (2-1-1) waited until the 76th minute to counter when freshman Loren Clark
continued to impress when she picked up a loose ball in front of the net and put
it in the back of the net. Junior Jessica Carrion assisted on the play.
The
Lady Rangers retook the lead in the 78th minute when Amy Scheuerman scored on
a pass from Sherina Woods to make the score, 2-1.
However,
the Lady Rams would not be denied, as junior Leslie Tabor scored on a penalty
kick in the 79th minute to knot the score, 2-2.
Neither
team was able to put together a real scoring chance in the two overtime periods
and the match ended in a draw.
"Today
was a long day for both teams," head coach Steve Jones said. "With a
tie against a team of this caliber, we have shown that we can compete with anyone
in the region."
NW Oklahoma State outshot
the Lady Rams, 8-7.
Texas Wesleyan returns
to action Friday when they host Texas Women's at Martin Field. Kickoff is set
for 3 p.m.
