September 7, 2004

Box Score

     DURANT, Okla. -
Senior Tiffany Porterfield tallied 16 kills to lead Texas Wesleyan past SE Oklahoma State, 3-0, Tuesday evening at Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

Texas Wesleyan (6-1) defeated the Lady Savages, 30-25, 30-23, 30-17, to win its second straight match after falling to John Brown for its first defeat on Saturday.

"We struggled tonight, but found a way to pull through," head coach Rick Johansen said. "We have a long way to go before conference begins and there are a lot of thing we need to work on."

Porterfield also registered five blocks, while senior Cortney Johansen dished out 33 aces and had four service aces.

"Tiffany was a big reason why we won tonight," Johansen said. "She has really turned it around since earlier this season."

Junior Susan Taylor continued her dominance in the back row with 14 digs. This coming just two days after Taylor broke the school's single-game record with 43 digs versus John Brown.

The Lady Rams had a .235 hitting percentage, while SE Oklahoma State (2-8) produced a hitting percentage of .075.

Texas Wesleyan returns to action Friday when they open up conference play on the road versus College of the Southwest at 7 p.m., and Saturday versus UT-Permian Basin at 11 a.m.
