- Senior Tiffany Porterfield tallied 16 kills to lead Texas Wesleyan past
SE Oklahoma State, 3-0, Tuesday evening at Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
Texas
Wesleyan (6-1) defeated the Lady Savages, 30-25, 30-23, 30-17, to win its second
straight match after falling to John Brown for its first defeat on Saturday.
"We
struggled tonight, but found a way to pull through," head coach Rick Johansen
said. "We have a long way to go before conference begins and there are a
lot of thing we need to work on."
Porterfield
also registered five blocks, while senior Cortney Johansen dished out 33 aces
and had four service aces.
"Tiffany
was a big reason why we won tonight," Johansen said. "She has really
turned it around since earlier this season."
Junior
Susan Taylor continued her dominance in the back row with 14 digs. This coming
just two days after Taylor broke the school's single-game record with 43 digs
versus John Brown.
The Lady Rams had a .235
hitting percentage, while SE Oklahoma State (2-8) produced a hitting percentage
of .075.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action
Friday when they open up conference play on the road versus College of the Southwest
at 7 p.m., and Saturday versus UT-Permian Basin at 11 a.m.
