FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Wesleyan
junior forward Jessica Carrion was named Red River Athletic Conference
player of the week by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
Carrion, a Fort Worth native, led Texas
Wesleyan (2-1-1) to a win and a tie with three goals and an assist
last week. The Lady Rams tied Northwestern Oklahoma State, 2-2,
with Carrion assisting on the equalizer in the 76th minute. In the
previous game, she contributed her first hat trick of the season
in a 4-2 win over UT-Tyler. She punched in two goals to break a
1-1 deadlock then closed out the scoring with her third goal in
the 86th minute. Carrion has now scored a goal or an assist in all
four of the Lady Rams' games, with a total of six goals.
"Jessica is doing a very good job
to open the season," head coach Steve Jones said. "She
has a lot of good players surrounding her and it is creating more
opportunities for her. Her fitness is getting better with every
game. Once all the players adjust to one another, I look for her
output to increase."
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Friday
when they host Texas Women's at Martin Field. Kickoff is set for
3 p.m.
