FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas
Wesleyan women's soccer team received a No. 1 ranking in Region
VI and is ranked 26th in the NAIA Women's Soccer Poll.
The national ranking is a first for the
Lady Ram soccer program, and the regional ranking is the second
Texas Wesleyan has received since head coach Steve Jones took over
in 2002.
"The girls have been working hard,"
head coach Steve Jones said. "We have had two really good results
within the region, but we still have a long way to go."
After opening the season with a loss to
NCAA Division II Eastern New Mexico, Texas Wesleyan (2-1-1) has
defeated UT-Tyler, Sooner Conference member Oklahoma Christian and
tied last year's regional semifinalist Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The Lady Rams are led by junior Jessica
Carrion who has six goals and two assists in the four games. The
forward was recently named RRAC Player of the Week on Tuesday. Freshman
Loren Clark has also chipped in, scoring three goals and assisting
on two others.
"We have had the advantage of playing
on our home field for the first few games," Jones said. "After
Friday's contest, the next couple of games will be on the road and
that will be a true test."
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Friday
when they host NCAA Division II Texas Women's at Martin Field. Kickoff
is set for 3 p.m.
