Lady Rams split first two conference matches

     ODESSA, Texas -
Texas Wesleyan opened up Red River Conference play on a sour note, losing to College of the SW, 3-1, on Friday evening, but rallied back to defeat UT-Permian Basin, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.

     The Lady Rams (7-2, 1-1 RRAC) were bested by College of the SW for the first time in school history, 27-30, 30-26, 30-14, 30-28. The loss was Texas Wesleyan's first to a conference opponent other than Houston Baptist in over two years.

     In the defeat, senior Cortney Johansen dished out 49 assists and had three service aces. Junior Susan Taylor led the Lady Rams with 30 digs, while senior Tiffany Porterfield tallied 16 kills and nine blocks. Senior Nicky Davis and junior Rachel Loftin both registered 15 kills.

     Texas Wesleyan had a quick turnaround against UT-Permian Basin on Saturday morning defeating the Lady Falcons, 30-12, 30-19, 34-32.

     Johansen had 42 assists, while Loftin added 13 kills and eight blocks. Freshman Sandra Ayala had a career-high 15 digs and six blocks. Senior Becca Broussard tallied 13 digs and one service ace in the victory.

     Texas Wesleyan returns to action Tuesday when they host Southern Nazarene in its home opener at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The Lady Rams defeated the Crimson Storm twice last season and hold a 7-0 all-time series lead.
