FORT WORTH, Texas - Senior
Tiffany Porterfield was named Red River Athletic Conference co-player
of the week, while teammates Cortney Johansen was named co-setter
of the week andjunior Susan Taylor was named setter of the week
by the conference office Monday morning.
Porterfield, a senior middle blocker from
Burleson, Texas, racked up 45 kills (4.5 per game) as Texas Wesleyan
went 2-1 last week. She piled up consistent totals with 16 against
Southeastern Oklahoma State University, 15 against College of the
Southwest and 14 against UT-Permian Basin. Porterfield committed
only eight errors in 87 total attempts on pace to a kill percentage
of .425, and she added 19 total blocks. TWU is now 7-2 overall.
"Tiffany stepped up her play this
week," head coach Rick Johansen said. " She is playing
her kind of game, and has become a key middle blocker for us."
Johansen, a 5-7 setter from Colleyville,
Texas, provided 124 assists over three matches for the Lady Rams.
With totals of 33, 49, and 42, she averaged 12.4 assists per game.
Her high of 49 came against the College of the Southwest, while
she averaged 14.0 per game against UT-Permian Basin. Johansen also
chipped in 18 digs and six kills over the three-game stretch.
"Cortney continues to deliver for
us this season," Johansen said. " She provides the leadership
that we need and is a real asset to the team."
Taylor, a junior libero from Southlake,
Texas, supplied the defensive punch for Texas Wesleyan with 77 digs
on the week or 7.70 per game. She registered totals of 30 against
the College of the Southwest (7.50 per game) and 27 against UT-Permian
Basin (9.0 per game).
"Susan played through an illness this
week," Johansen said. "She has provides us with the dependability
we need on defense."
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Tuesday
for its home opener versus Southern Nazarene. First-serve is set
for 7 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
