DENTON, Texas - Senior Cortney
Johansen registered 35 assists to break Texas Wesleyan's career
assist record. Johnasen helped lead the Lady Rams to a victory over
Texas Women's, 3-0, Tuesday evening at Magee Arena.
Texas Wesleyan (11-2) outscored the
Lady Pioneers, 30-27, 31-29, 30-27.
Johansen passes former Lady Ram Cassie
Underwood who dished out 4,605 from 1994-96. The Colleyville, Texas
native has been Texas Wesleyan's starting setter for all of her
four seasons.
Also leading the way for Texas Wesleyan
were senior Tiffany Porterfield who tallied 14 kills, while freshman
Sandra Ayala chipped in with 10. Junior Susan Taylor led the Lady
Rams with 16 digs, while freshman Ashley Mock registered two service
aces.
"This is a great win for us,"
head coach Rick Johansen said. "This is a really big step for
this team to beat a team of such magnitude. For the most part the
girls played with a lot of intensity."
Texas Wesleyan returns to action Wednesday
when they travel to take on UT-Tyler. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
