OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.
- The Texas Wesleyan men and women's soccer teams lost both ends of a doubleheader
versus Oklahoma City Saturday afternoon. The Rams fell to the Stars, 2-1, while
the Lady Rams lost by the same score, 2-1, against the Lady Stars.
The
Lady Rams (6-5-1) got on the scoreboard early when sophomore Melody Overland scored
on a pass from freshman Sarah Wilson in the 11th minute.
The
Lady Stars fought back with a goal by Amanda Jones in the 15th minute, and they
capped off the scoring in the 78th minute with a goal by Whitney Ward.
"We
had a couple of errors, defensively," head coach Steve Jones said. "The
girls played hard, but came up short."
On
the men's side, the Rams (4-7-1) went down 2-0 in the first 50 minutes of play.
Texas Wesleyan got back in the game when junior Jose Melendez scored off of a
cornerkick from junior Rene Mercado to cut the deficit to, 2-1. But, that is as
close as the Rams would get.
"We just
had a couple of defensive lapses," Jones said. "We had a couple of opportunities
and didn't capitalize. OCU is a good team and they got the breaks today."
Texas
Wesleyan returns to action next Saturday when they host conference-rival Bacone
College. The women kick off at 1 p.m., with the men to follow at 3 p.m. The Lady
Rams lost to Bacone, 4-1, last season in Muskogee, while the men tied the Warriors,
4-4.
