HILL, Texas - Texas Wesleyan lost three one-goal leads as the Rams fell to
Northwood, 5-3, Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Red River Conference
Tournament.

Wesleyan (7-9-1) opened the scoring in the second minute when sophomore Ryan Landers
took a through ball and beat the Northwood goalkeeper to put the Rams ahead, 1-0.
Juniors Ricky Gallardo and Jose Melendez both had an assist on the play.
Northwood
(11-4) fought back with a goal of its own in the eighth minute when Cristyan Crespo
scored on a deflected shot to knot the score, 1-1.
The
Rams regained the lead in the 16th minute when Gallardo scored from 16 yards out
on an assist from Melendez to take a 2-1 lead. Again,
the Knights came back, scoring in the 37th minute. Phinius Pfurdizo scored off
of a one-timer on a cornerkick from Mariano Mariano to tie the score, 2-2.
In the second half, the Rams came out strong.
Junior Rene Mercado scored in the 49th minute on a free-kick from 20 yards out
to pull the Rams ahead, 3-2. But, Northwood
rallied with three goals down the stretch to take the match and end Texas Wesleyan's
season. Northwood outshot Wesleyan, 10-4,
and had an amazing 16 cornerkicks to the Rams' one.
