Texas - Texas Wesleyan had four players in double-digit kills as the Lady
Rams knocked off No. 8 Houston Baptist, 3-1, in the Red River Athletic Conference
Championship
Saturday afternoon at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
Texas
Wesleyan (31-3) pulled through with a 30-25, 24-30,30-20, 30-24 victory which
was Houston Baptist's first ever conference loss in its eight seasons in the RRAC.
"I
am so proud of this team, they have really worked hard all season," head
coach Rick Johansen said. "After losing the second game, I told the girls
to keep their composure and just to relax."
Senior
Becca Broussard led the Lady Rams with 14 kills and also tallied 15 digs. Senior
Tiffany Porterfield rallied off 12 kills while junior Rachel Loftin and senior
Kat Williams both added 10 kills. Senior Cortney Johansen dished out 43 assists,
while junior Susan Taylor led all players with 29 digs.
 Texas
Wesleyan defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God, 3-0, and Texas A&M-International,
3-2, on its way to the title. In the Lady Rams' victory over TAMIU, Johansen dished
out a season-high 61 assists, and the team tallied 115 digs.
Texas
Wesleyan advances to the NAIA Region VI Tournament that will be held Friday and
Saturday in Odessa. Wesleyan's opponent or game time has yet to be announced.
