| SHAWNEE, Okla. - The
Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team earned a split this weekend in the Oklahoma
Baptist Classic. The Lady Rams defeated St. Gregory's, 60-54, Friday evening before
falling to host Oklahoma Baptist, 52-45 on Saturday evening at the Novell Complex.
Texas
Wesleyan (2-4) downed St. Gregory's in Friday afternoon's contest. The Lady Rams
received 17 points and nine rebounds from junior Shawndrika Courtney, while junior
Tiffany Hill added 12 points and nine rebounds of her own.
Texas
Wesleyan outrebounded St. Gregory's, 55-43. The Lady Rams also shot 68 percent
(27-40) from the charity stripe.
In the
loss to Oklahoma Baptist (9-0), the Lady Rams shot a dismal 28 percent (17-61)
from the field and turned the ball over 22 times. They were outrebounded, 45-40.
Senior
Shayla Coleman led the way for Texas Wesleyan, scoring 14 points, while Hill registered
seven points and seven assists.
"I am
impressed with our girls," head coach Stacy Francis said. "Even though
we lost, we are still a strong team. We gave them some easy buckets down the stretch
late in the first half and that gave them the edge going into halftime."
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Dec. 4 when they travel to open up conference
play at Wiley College. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
