POINT LOMA, Calif. - Senior
Tiffany Porterfield tallied a career-high 25 kills as Texas Wesleyan hung on to
defeat fifth-seeded Conerstone, 3-2.
Texas
Wesleyan (35-3) held a 2-0 advantage before Cornerstone (47-4) took the next two
games. The Lady Rams hung on to win game five. The Lady Rams defeated the Golden
Eagles, 30-25, 30-22, 18-30, 27-30, 15-12.
Senior
Cortney Johansen dished out 75 assists to go along with her 10 digs and two service
aces. Junior Rachel Loftin registered 21 kills, while senior Kat Williams added
18. Junior Susan Taylor had 30 digs.
In the
process the Lady Rams broke the school record with 89 kills in the match. The
old mark was set in 1989, when the Lady Rams did it against Incarnate Word and
Texas Women's.
Texas Wesleyan will take on
the fourth seeded Dordt (Iowa) on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. (PST). Dordt lost
its opening game to host Point Loma Nazarene, 3-2, Wednesday morning.
