DALLAS,
Texas - The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team registered 20 steals on
its way to a 77-36 victory over Paul Quinn, Saturday evening in Red River Conference
action.
Texas Wesleyan (8-6, 5-1 RRAC) put
15 points on the board before the hosts even registered a basket. Senior Shayla
Coleman tallied six points, while junior Shawndrika Courtney added five points
during the 15-0 run in the first four minutes of the contest.
Paul
Quinn (0-14, 0-5 RRAC) cut the lead to 18-5, but that is as close as the Lady
Tigers would get as Texas Wesleyan forced them into 11 first-half turnovers to
take a commanding 45-15 lead at the break.
In
the second half, Texas Wesleyan increased its lead to as many as 45, taking a
66-21 lead with 9:23 remaining in the game.
Sophomore
Nastassia Brown led the way for the Lady Rams scoring a game-high 13 points and
bringing down 10 rebounds. Courtney finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
Senior Kashae Townsend led Texas Wesleyan with four assists to go along with her
nine points and nine rebounds.
Stacy Woodley
led Paul Quinn with eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Texas
Wesleyan shot 48 percent (30-63) from the field and 48 percent (14-29) from the
charity stripe. The Lady Rams also shot 38 percent (3-8) from the three-point
line.
Paul Quinn shot 24 percent (13-55)
from the floor and 47 percent (8-17) from the free-throw line. The Lady Tigers
also shot 13 percent (2-16) from behind the arc.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Monday, when they travel to take on conference-rival
Southwestern Assemblies of God. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The Lady Rams defeated
the Lady Lions twice last season.
