Wesleyan pressed SW Assemblies of God into 32 turnovers to defeat the Lady Lions,
76-48, Monday evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.
SW
Assemblies of God (0-15, 0-6 RRAC) began the game on a 6-0 run, as Evelyn Johnson
canned two buckets and Angel Harlow made another.
Texas
Wesleyan (9-6, 6-1 RRAC) fought back with a 16-5 run to take a 16-11 lead with
8:38 remaining in the first half. The Lady Rams got five points each from sophomore
Nastassia Brown and senior LaRhonda Hunter during the stretch.
The
Lady Lions battled back to take a 26-25 lead at the break. Valerie Montemayor
made two free throws with one second remaining in the period.
SW
Assemblies of God's Johnson led all scorers in the first half with 13 points.
In
the second half, the Lady Rams came out hot, going on a 19-4 run in the first
eight minutes. They received seven points from junior Britney Helton and five
points from sophomore Stephanie Sewell.
Texas
Wesleyan never let up down the stretch, pressuring SW Assemblies of God into 20
second-half turnovers.
Junior Shawndrika
Courtney led the Lady Rams with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Brown chipped
in with 11 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Johnson
led SW Assemblies of God with a game-high 22 points, while Jennifer Snow registered
seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Texas
Wesleyan shot 35 percent (31-88) from the field and 70 percent (7-10) from the
charity stripe. The Lady Rams also shot 39 percent (7-18) from the three-point
line.
SW Assemblies of God shot 32 percent
(14-44) from the floor and 76 percent (19-25) from the free-throw line. The Lady
Lions also shot 14 percent (1-7) from behind the arc.

Wesleyan owned the glass, outrebounding the Lady Lions, 54-38. They also pulled
down a season-high 34 offensive rebounds.

Wesleyan will be back in action Thursday, when they host conference-rival Texas
College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. The Lady
Rams defeated the Lady Steers twice last season.
