Lady Rams handle Texas College, 78-53

     FORT WORTH, Texas -
Sophomore Nastassia Brown tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Texas Wesleyan past Texas College, 78-53, Thursday evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.

     Texas Wesleyan (10-6, 7-1 RRAC) jumped out to an early 14-6 lead at the 14:20 left in the first half. Sophomore Nastassia Brown led the way with six points while fellow sophomore Lacie Curry added four points during the opening minutes.

     The Lady Rams finished the first half out on a 29-18 run. Brown was at it again added eight more to her 14 first-half point total. Texas Wesleyan forced Texas College (4-12, 3-4 RRAC) into 14 first-half turnovers.

     In the second half, Texas Wesleyan increased its lead to as many 33 points, by forcing the Lady Steers into 18 second-half turnovers.

     Senior Kashae Townsend registered 10 points and four steals, while junior Shawndrika Courtney finished with seven points and seven rebounds to go along with her four steals.

     Texas Wesleyan shot 48 percent (34-71) from the floor and 57 percent (8-14) from the charity stripe. The Lady Rams also shot 29 percent (2-7) from the three-point line.

     Texas College shot 31 percent (19-61) from the field and 80 percent (12-15) from the free-throw line. The Lady Steers also shot 12 percent (3-25) from behind the arc.

     Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Sunday, when they host conference-rival UT-Permian Basin. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. The Lady Rams defeated the Lady Falcons three times last season, including a victory in the RRAC quarterfinals.
