FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore
Nastassia Brown recorded 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead Texas
Wesleyan to a 85-71 victory over Wiley College Saturday evening
in Red River Athletic Conference action.
Texas Wesleyan (13-7, 10-2 RRAC) jumped
out to a quick 12-4 lead at the 16:38 mark of the first half. The
Lady Rams received five points from junior Tiffany Hill.
The Lady Rams increased its lead to 19
points, taking a 36-17 advantage with 7:34 remaining in the first
half. They used a 24-13 run to pull ahead of the Ladycats.
Wiley College (8-10, 5-7 RRAC) cut the
lead to 44-35 with 36 seconds remaining.
In the second half, the Lady Rams increased
their lead to 61-46 at the 13:16 mark. Brown led the charge with
four points in the early going.
The Ladycats were never able to get back
in the game as the Lady Rams won their second straight game.
Hill tallied 14 points and a game-high
six assists and seven steals, while sophomore Lacy Curry and junior
Britney Helton both registered 10 points.
Tiffany Miller led Wiley College 19 points
and five rebounds, while Amber Boykins followed with 13 points.
Texas Wesleyan shot 51 percent (31-61)
from the floor and 63 percent (22-35) from the charity stripe. The
Lady Rams also shot 20 percent (1-5) from the three-point line.
Wiley College shot 68 percent (27-69) from
the field and 68 percent (15-22) from the free-throw line. The Ladycats
also shot 33 percent (2-6) from behind the arc.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Monday,
when they host conference-rival Jarvis Christian. Tip-off is set
for 5:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
