FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore
Nastassia Brown scored 15 points and pulled down six rebounds to
lead Texas Wesleyan to a 73-61 victory over Jarvis Christian Monday
evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.
Texas Wesleyan (14-7, 11-2 RRAC) jumped
to an early 10-5 lead at the 14:16 mark of the first half. Junior
Britney Helton tallied four points to the lead the charge.
Jarvis Christian (10-10, 6-7 RRAC) cut
the lead to 14-13, using a 8-4 run to do the damage.
However, the Lady Bulldogs committed 18
first-half turnovers, as the Lady Rams went on a 26-12 run to end
the half. Helton led the Lady Ram attack with 10 points, while junior
Tiffany Hill dished out three first-half assists.
In the second half, the Lady Rams came
out hot, scoring the first nine points of the half to take a 49-25
lead with 16:04 remaining in the game. Senior Kashae Townsend scored
four points during the run.
The Lady Rams controlled the game the rest
of the way, making 17-of-23 free-throws down the stretch.
Senior Shayla Coleman ended the game with
12 points, while Helton tallied 10 points and three rebounds.
Sheree Smiling and Melina Perea both led
the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points each.
Texas Wesleyan shot 41 percent (21-51)
from the floor and 72 percent (26-36) from the charity stripe. The
Lady Rams also shot 31 percent (5-16) from the three-point line.
Jarvis Christian shot 47 percent (22-47)
from the field and 81 percent (13-16) from the free-throw line.
The Lady Bulldogs also shot 33 percent (4-12) from behind the arc.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Saturday,
when they travel to take on Langston. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
in Langston, Okla. The Lady Rams defeated Langston, 76-69, on Dec.
11th in Fort Worth.
