FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Wesleyan tallied
20 steals and forced 31 turnovers in a 92-40 victory over Paul Quinn Saturday
evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.
Texas
Wesleyan (16-8, 13-3 RRAC) has now won two straight and five of its last six games.
The
Lady Rams dominated Paul Quinn in the first half, 49-16. Senior Shayla Coleman
and junior Shawndrika Courtney both tallied seven points and Texas Wesleyan held
a 27-13 advantage on the boards in the first half.
In
the second half it was more of the same, as the Rams forced the Lady Tigers into
16 turnovers and the Lady Rams again held the advantage on the boards, 25-17.
Senior
Johnna Flemmons led Texas Wesleyan with 14 points and five rebounds, while Courtney
chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds. Coleman registered 12 points and
five rebounds, while junior Tiffany Hill had a team-high four assists.
Tanya Prejean led Paul Quinn with 12 points, while
Valencia Dunn added 10 points and four assists.
Texas
Wesleyan shot 48 percent (37-77) from the floor and 80 percent (16-20) from the
charity stripe. The Lady Rams also shot 15 percent (2-13) from the three-point
line.
Paul Quinn shot 29 percent (15-51)
from the field and 43 percent (6-14) from the free-throw line. The Lady Tigers
also shot 27 percent (4-15) from behind the arc.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Monday, when they take on conference-rival Southwestern
Assemblies of God. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Gymnasium.
The Lady Rams already defeated SW Assemblies of God once, 90-78, on Jan. 10th
in Waxahachie, Texas. Texas Wesleyan remains in second place three games back
of Houston Baptist for first place and two games ahead of third-place Langston
