TYLER,
Texas - The Texas Wesleyan softball team lost both games of a doubleheader
to UT-Tyler Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field. The Patriots took game one, 7-4,
and finished off the sweep with a 6-1 victory in the second game.
UT-Tyler
(3-1) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first inning on the strength of three
walks and three hits.
Texas Wesleyan (7-4)
tallied three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Designated hitter Amanda Milam
smoked a home run to left field and leftfielder Rachel Hmapton had two-run shot
to cut the lead to 6-3.
The Patriots would
add another run in the fifth inning and the Lady Rams registered one run in the
seventh.
Wesleyan stranded eight base runners
in the game.
Milam (0-1) suffered the loss,
allowing four runs on one hit, while walking three batters without registering
an out.
In the second game, UT-Tyler again
opened the scoring in the second inning. Texas Wesleyan responded with a run of
its own in the fourth inning on another Milam home run. This time she launched
a shot to right field to knot the score, 1-1.
UT-Tyler
answered in the bottom of the fourth inning as Talesha Martin homered to centerfield. The
Patriots scored four runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore
Rachel Lamont (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits
in 4.1 innings of work.
The Lady Rams will
be back in action Saturday when they host conference-rival UT-Permian Basin. The
doubleheader is set for 12 p.m. at Sycamore Park.
