SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The
Texas Wesleyan golf team struggled through a rough second round on its way to
a sixth place finish at the 2005 Pfeiffer/Pine Needles Invitational Tuesday afternoon
at the Pine Needles Resort. Texas Wesleyan
(302-319-621) was in second place after the first 18 holes on Monday and sophomore
Scott Sikes (71-81) fired an opening round even-par to share the individual lead.
Guilford College (298-300-598) took the victory
as they shot the lowest score of the second round. Lee University's Josh Coley
(71-74-145) took home individual honors shooting three-above par. "We
struggled in every part of the game on Tuesday," head coach Kevin Millikan
said. "We made some mental mistakes and when we were not making those mental
mistakes, we executed poorly. Other competitors
for the Rams were junior Reino Deetlefs (76-78-154) who fininshed tied for 19th,
senior Justin Ward (77-79-156) who finished tied for 24th, sophomore Dan Hahn
(78-82-160) who finished tied for 48th and junior Blake Sullivan (81-81-162) who
finished tied for 61st. The Rams will be
back in action on Monday when they host the 54-hole UST Texas Intercollegiate.
The two-day event will be held at Hawk's Creek Golf Club in Fort Worth.
