Lady Rams rally to sweep Missouri Valley
March 14, 2005

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Lady Rams were off to a slow start against Missouri Valley in a doubleheader Monday afternoon at Sycamore Park, but managed to pull away with wins in both contests. The Lady Rams captured a 4-3 victory in the opening game and scored five runs in their last at-bat to take a 10-9 decision in the second game.

Lady Viking third baseman, Ashley Haven set the tone in the first inning of the first game with a homerun and an RBI to give Missouri Valley a small advantage early on.

Texas Wesleyan (15-8) scored two runs in the third inning and sophomore pitcher Rachel Lamont held the Lady Vikings to only two runs until the fifth inning. The Lady Rams did not give Missouri Valley another chance to score and ended the game 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning.

Missouri-Valley held a 9-5 advantage over Texas Wesleyan in the second contest but sophomore Rachel Hampton gave hope to the Lady Rams with a homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pitcher, Tara Sharp, doubled home three runs, to knot the score, 9-9. Freshman third baseman, Ariel Raley reached on Lady Viking Sarah Richards error. Sharp advanced and scored the game-winner for the Lady Rams.

Sharp (3-1) picked up the victory for Texas Wesleyan as she pitched two scoreless innings to end the second game.

Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Friday when it plays host to conference-rival College of the Southwest at Sycamore Park. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m.
