CEDAR HILL, Texas - Sophomore pitcher
Rachel Lamont tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Texas Wesleyan to a split
with Northwood on Wednesday afternoon in Red River Athletic Conference action.
The Lady Knights took game one, 6-1, but the Lady Rams fought back to take the
second game, 4-0.
Northwood
(14-15, 5-3 RRAC) opened the scoring in the first game, pushing across a run in
the first inning.
Texas Wesleyan (19-10,
5-1 RRAC) answered with a run of its own in the third inning when second baseman
Jessica Bancroft singled home shortstop Vanessa Urteaga to knot the score, 1-1.
The
Lady Knights put the game out of reach in the fifth inning by scoring five runs
to make the final score, 6-1.
Sophomore Tara
Sharp (5-2) suffered the loss for Texas Wesleyan, allowing four runs on five hits
in 4.1 innings of work.
In the second game,
Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead as centerfielder Danah Merck and Bancroft
each had RBI-singles in the first and third innings respectively. Junior Marie
Stone delivered a pinch-hit RBI-single in the fourth inning to put the Lady Rams
ahead, 3-0. First baseman capped off the scoring in the top of the seventh inning
when singled in the final Lady Ram run.
Lamont
(5-3) picked up the victory for Texas Wesleyan, allowing just six hits, while
walking one and striking out four batters in seven innings of work.
Texas
Wesleyan will be back in action Friday when it they host conference-leader Houston
Baptist. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12 p.m. at Sycamore Park. Wesleyan
is currently in second place in the RRAC, only one game back of Houston Baptist.
