Lady Rams knocked out of tournament by Bacone College, 8-0

     FARMERS BRANCH, Texas -
Texas Wesleyan threatened early on but ended up falling to #11 Bacone College, 8-0, in the semifinal of the Red River Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon at Oren Good Park.

Texas Wesleyan (28-25) loaded the bases in both the first and third innings against Bacone starting pitcher Megan Melancon but failed to capitalize, leaving them loaded in both innings.

Bacone College scored an unearned run in the bottom of the third when centerfielder Silva reached on an error by second baseman Jessica Bancroft. She then moved to second base on a sacrifice by the rightfielder Schlagel. A ground out by shortstop Bianca Oakley moved Silva to third base. She then scored on a wild pitch by Lady Ram starting pitcher Rachel Lamont to put the Lady Warriors ahead, 1-0.

The fourth inning proved to be the turning point of the game. Designated player Marie Stone led off the inning with a double to right field. First baseman Brooke McNabb followed with a single up the middle. Stone rounded third and tested Silva's arm from centerfield. She looked to have avoided the tag by Bacone catcher Almaeda but the umpire made a questionable out call to bail the Lady Warriors out. Melancon rebounded to get the next to batters out and strand McNabb at second base and end the threat.

Bacone pushed two unearned runs across in the bottom of the fourth, three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to push the lead to 8-0, and provide a run-rule victory for the Lady Warriors.

Lamont (9-10) suffered the loss for the Lady Rams, allowing six runs on five hits, while walking one and striking out three batters in 4.2 innings of work.

Melancon picked up the victory, allowing six hits, while walking five and striking gout four batters.

Texas Wesleyan ends its season with a 28-25 record and advanced its farthest in the conference tournament since the 2000 season that won the Heartland Conference Championship.
