MANHATTAN, KS: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (3-3) took a 1-0 win over Manhattan Christian College (6-2-2) on Saturday.
The Rams had plenty of scoring opportunity, out shooting the Crusaders 24-5; however, MCC’s keeper, Shawn Perry kept his team in the contest.
Texas Wesleyan’s Christian Villansenor found Jose Melendez for their lone score in the 31st minute. Goalkeeper Thomas Hansen recorded two saves against two Crusader shots on goal to preserve his first shutout of the season.
“Their goalkeeper really kept them in it,” said Head Coach Steve Jones. “We played very well, but we did not finish and gave them a shot at it. Luckily we played hard and were able to preserve the win.”
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Wednesday, September 28, when they host Wiley College. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game against East Texas Baptist.
