I am pleased to serve as Interim Athletic
Director and Head Basketball Coach at Texas Wesleyan University.
We are very proud of our athletic programs and the young men and
women who comprise them.
Over the past couple seasons we have had
several outstanding teams which represented Texas Wesleyan,
including the 2000 baseball NCAA Division II regional
semifinalists, the 2002 Mens Basketball USCAA Elite Eight,
and the 2002 Softball team which finished the year competing in
the USCAA National Championship tournament. Golf has also been
consistently ranked in the Top 10, and has participated in the
NCAA Division II National Championships on several occasions.
As proud as we are of the past, we are equally
enthusiastic regarding our future.
- Our baseball team, led by former major
league pitcher Mike Jeffcoat, will play quite a few games in the
new LaGrave Field, the home of the Fort Worth Cats baseball
team. This will certainly be one of the best venues in all of
college baseball to watch a game.
- The addition of two-time Red River
Conference Coach of the Year Steve Jones has certainly given our
men and womens soccer programs a boost as we look forward
to the fall.
- Womens volleyball and mens golf
certainly have excelled in the past at the NAIA level and are
looking forward to having a chance to continue their success
under Texas Wesleyan Alumnus Rick Johansen (VB) and Assistant
AD, Golf Coach Kevin Millikan.
- The womens basketball team under
second year head coach Stacy Francis will look to rebound after
a rebuilding season and should make a strong impact on the Red
River Conference.
- The mens basketball team will face a
complete rebuilding year after a record setting season last year
that included an Elite Eight finish in Detroit. Gone are four of
five starters and the Rams return only Aaron Whaley who averaged
double figure minutes.
- The initial season of our club sport Table
Tennis, saw them win five national championships at the national
table tennis tournament.
We are moving into an exciting period for our
school and athletic program with the affiliation with the NAIA.
Texas Wesleyan has a legacy of success and tradition with the NAIA
which includes six national championships in golf, and national
tournament appearances in volleyball, baseball and basketball.
We are proud of renewing our association with
the NAIA and invite you to enjoy our website and support the Rams
as we venture into a new conference and familiar league. We are
looking forward to continuing the many rivalries in the NAIA that
Texas Wesleyan has enjoyed over the years and feel that the
opportunity in the Red River Conference fits perfectly with the
athletic department motto for the 2002-2003 season which is:
Texas
Wesleyan Rams: CHARGING BACK !!
