August 2, 2002

Fort Worth, June 12—Texas Wesleyan University athletic director Terry Waldrop announced today the hiring of Steve Jones to immediately take over the men’s and women’s soccer programs.

Jones, a 1995 graduate of Judson College in Elgin, Illinois, has spent the last four years as the men’s head soccer coach at Northwood College in Dallas. Before that, he served as an assistant coach for the 1998 Texas Toros, a level 3 professional soccer club, preceded by a three-year stint as the head women’s coach at Judson College.

While at Northwood, Jones was honored as the Red River Athletic Conference coach of the year three times, and in 1997 was named as the NCCAA regional and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year at Judson.

As a player, Jones has won an NCCAA national championship, two conference championships, and was named to one all-conference team.

Texas Wesleyan University, a member of the Red River Conference of the NAIA, fields teams in Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, and Men’s Golf, and offers Table Tennis as a club sport.
