For the second time this season, Wesleyan took
Ouachita Baptist to a fifth game, and for the second time, they
came up just short. The Lady Rams hung tough, but a six-point skid
to start that final game proved to be too much to overcome.
Its amazing, though, that there even was
a fifth game this time. Ouachita pulled out a nail-biting first
game 32-30, before Wesleyan cruised to a 30-23 win in the second.
Ouachita followed that with an equally impressive 30-20 win,
setting the stage for the matchs most dramatic game. After
an early Wesleyan lead, Ouachita roared back to seemingly take
control. However, with Ouachita ahead 27-24, Wesleyan rallied for
seven of the games final nine points, holding off two match
points in the process, and forced a final game with a 31-29
victory.
After handing Ouachita the first six points in
game five, Wesleyan managed a mini rally, but got no closer than
two points as the Lady Tigers won 15-12.
The non-conference loss drops Wesleyan to 7-6
overall, and they remain 4-1 in Red River Conference play. The
Lady Rams hit the road for their next five matches beginning with
Texas A&M-International on Saturday evening. Their next home
game is Friday, October 18 at 1 PM against UT-Permian Basin.
