Texas Wesleyan University sophomore Joey
Gladney was honored by the Red River Athletic Conference as the
mens basketball Player of the Week for January 6-12. For the
Rams, in their first season as a member of the RRAC, he becomes
the first basketball player, male or female, to earn that honor.
The 6-6 Palestine, Texas native
came off the bench to score 26 points, leading all players in
Wesleyans 86-76 victory over The University of Texas of the
Permian Basin on Saturday night. He also pulled down five rebounds
and recorded one steal in the Rams only game of the week. He
connected on nine of 14 shots from the field, including four of
six three-pointers, and was perfect in four attempts from the free
throw line.
Shooting nearly 59 percent from the floor for
the season (through Saturday), Gladney ranks third in the Red
River Conference. He has also made 11 of 25 three-point attempts
(44 percent) which ranks sixth. Gladney has not started a game
this season, but is the Rams fifth-leading scorer, averaging
9.6 points in just over 18 minutes per contest.
