FORT WORTH, Texas The National Champion
Texas Wesleyan University table tennis team kicks off the 2003
season on Tuesday, January 28, with an NCTTA-Texas Division match
against metroplex rival SMU. This is the first of six matches
Wesleyan must play in order to qualify for a return trip to the
national championship tournament in late March.
The National Collegiate Table Tennis
Association (NCTTA) sponsors 16 divisions around the country, each
consisting of between four and eight teams. Teams within each
division play each other to determine a champion, who then goes on
to represent that division at the national tournament, which will
be held at the University of Pennsylvania on March 30. The four
Texas Division schools, Wesleyan, SMU, Baylor, and Rice, will play
each other twice over the next two months, and Wesleyan is heavily
favored to emerge on top.
Tuesdays match against the Mustangs
begins at 7 PM in the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. Admission is free
for everyone. Matches generally last between two and three hours,
so come support our table tennis team in their first step towards
back-to-back National Championships.
