FORT WORTH, Texas The 2002 National
Champion Texas Wesleyan University table tennis team began their
march towards a second consecutive title by easily handling SMU on
Tuesday evening in the Sid Richardson Gymnasium. Orin Hickerson,
Justin Aten, Russell Hamilton, and David Livings dismantled the
Mustangs, needing just five matches to win the required four in
two hours of play.
Hickerson opened play against SMUs Pavan
Muralidhar, posting an easy 11-5, 11-5, 11-1 victory. Aten then
faced John Beaumont, losing in three games, 9-11, 12-14, 5-11, but
Hamilton crushed Judah Epstein 11-3, 11-0, 11-2 to put the Rams
back ahead. Livings cruised part Goran Filic 11-4, 11-2, 11-2, and
Hickerson paired with Hamilton to close out the match with an
11-8, 13-11, 11-6 win in doubles competition.
