Texas Wesleyan Promotes Waldrop, Millikan
February 13, 2003

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Wesleyan University president Dr. Hal Jeffcoat announced today that he has promoted men’s basketball coach Terry Waldrop to the position of athletic director and men’s golf coach Kevin Millikan to assistant athletic director. Both had been serving in these respective capacities on an interim basis since the January 2002 departure of former Wesleyan athletic director, Dr Skip Applin.

“Texas Wesleyan benefits greatly from the leadership and coaching of Terry Waldrop and Kevin Millikan,” said Jeffcoat. “Their loyalty and commitment to Wesleyan athletics impacts the university every day. Our goal is to enable student-athletes to compete at the national level of the NAIA, without compromising the opportunity to obtain the extraordinary education available to them at Texas Wesleyan University. We have great leadership with Terry and Kevin together with our entire coaching staff, and I am delighted to announce these promotions today.”

Waldrop, 39, joined Wesleyan as head men’s basketball coach in 1999, and has since compiled a 62-47 record. In his first season, he guided the Rams to their best winning percentage in a decade, and led last season’s squad to a birth in the Elite Eight round of the NSCAA national tournament in Detroit, Michigan. This year, his team has compiled an 18-8 record through 25 games, and has consistently garnered votes for the NAIA national top 25 list, climbing to the 23rd spot for the week ending January 21.

A native of Monroe, Louisiana, Waldrop began his coaching career as an assistant at West Monroe High School before moving on to assume the head coaching job at Sterlington High School. After two 20-win seasons, Waldrop moved to Corsicana, Texas to assist on Lewis Orr’s staff at Navarro Junior College. He then returned to his home state to serve as an assistant on John Lyles’ staff at Southeastern Louisiana for five seasons before coming to Fort Worth.

Millikan, 30, was a member of the Texas Wesleyan golf team from 1995 through 1997, after which, he remained with the team as an assistant coach under Bobby Cornett. Two years later, in June of 1999, he was promoted to head coach, following Cornett’s retirement.

Millikan, a 1991 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, came to Wesleyan in 1993 following two years at Tyler Junior College.
