Errors in the field and a lack of offense cost
Texas Wesleyan the first game of a Tuesday night softball
doubleheader against Texas Womens University. The second
game was much closer, but the Lady Rams couldnt get the hits
when they needed them.
Wesleyan managed just two hits - but committed
five errors - in game one, losing 9-0 in five innings. In game
two, they out-hit the Pioneers 9-8, but could only push across one
run, losing 3-1 in seven.
Game 1: The Pioneers scored four in the
first on one hit, two walks and three Lady Ram errors. After a
three-up three-down second, they plated another run in the third
on a triple and a fielders choice. They scored four more in
the fourth on four hits and another two errors.
Amanda Kashuba went the distance on the mound
for Wesleyan, allowing six earned runs and six hits in four
innings. She struck out three and walked three. Monica Barrilleaux
and Dana Merck had the hits for the Lady Rams. They each went 1-2.
Barrilleaux was the only Wesleyan player to reach second base in
the shortened game, advancing on a past ball after her
second-inning single.
Game 2: The Pioneers struck first in
the second game as well, scoring single runs in each of the first
two innings. The Lady Rams got on the board in the third when
shortstop Shannon Gower doubled and scored on Stephanie Rices
single, but Texas Womens added an insurance run in the fifth
and held on for the victory.
Barrilleaux took to the mound for the nightcap,
allowing three earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work.
She struck out two and walked one. Gower led the way offensively
for Wesleyan, going 2-4 with a double and run scored. Rice
finished 1-4 with the lone RBI of the night. Barrilleaux, Merck,
and Jennifer Perez each went 2-3, and were the only other Lady
Rams with hits.
Wesleyan drops to 3-8 on the season, and will
return to action on Friday, March 14. They begin Red River
Conference play, taking on Northwood University in Cedar Hill at 2
PM.
