FORT WORTH, Texas – Midland Lutheran used two first-inning home runs to jump ahead of the Lady Rams in the early game and held on to win, 6-0, but Wesleyan rallied in game two to split Saturday’s softball doubleheader with the Lady Warriors, winning 8-3.

Game 1: In the first inning, after Jamie Thiessen walked, Traci Bode and Brooke Graham hit back-to-back homers to put Midland Lutheran up 3-0.

They scored again in the second when Theissen singled in a run, and again in the third on a Brooke Graham leadoff homer.

Graham scored the final run of the game in the fifth inning, when, after doubling with one out, she came home on a Wesleyan fielding error.

Cynthia Obsivac took the loss for Wesleyan, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits in seven innings. She walked five and struck out four. The Rams only managed two hits in the game, a second-inning double by Kamie Lancaster and a two-out single by Obsivac in the fifth.

Game 2: Kamie Lancaster ripped a grand slam as part of a six-run fifth inning, as the Lady Rams held on to split the doubleheader, winning game two 8-3.

Wesleyan opened the scoring in the third. Shannon Gower reached on an error, moved to third on Stephanie Rice’s single, then scored on a groundout by Danah Merck..

The Lady Warriors immediately responded, though, taking a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Tamara Geibel singled and Janelle Sager followed with MLU’s fourth homer of the day.

The Lady Rams tied it up in their half of the inning, though. Jennifer Perex led off with a single, moved around to third on a sacrifice and a groundout, then scored on Lancaster’s single.

The Lady Warriors again responded with a run. In the top of the fifth, Monica Preisendorf doubled and scored on Bethany Almquists’s single.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wesleyan put the game away. With one out, Merck walked and Amanda Kashuba followed with a single. Jennifer Perez knocked in Merck with a single, then Monica Barrilleaux plated Kashuba with another. Staci Fritz then reached on an infield error, loading the bases for Lancaster. After fouling off an 0-2 delivery, she took the next pitch deep over the left-field fence for her first homer of the season. Her slam put the Lady Rams in front 8-3, and that turned out to be the final score.

Barrilleaux got the win for Wesleyan, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings. She walked one and struck out five. Candice Morris took the loss for Midland Lutheran.

The Lady Rams were led offensively by Lancaster, who finished the day 3-6 at the plate with a double, a home run, and five RBI.

Wesleyan now stands at 5-10, 0-2 in RRAC play. They return to action on Monday with a 2:00 doubleheader against Hillsdale College at Sycamore Park.
