FORT WORTH, Texas Texas Wesleyan senior
outfielder Monica Barrilleaux was honored by the Red River
Athletic Conference on Tuesday as both the Pitcher of the Week and
the Co-Player of the Week for March 24-30. It is her first award
as a pitcher and second as a player. She was also named Player of
the Week on March 11, the first time the award was given this
season.
Barrilleaux, a Duncanville native, led Wesleyan
to three wins in four games this week, batting .692 with two
doubles, two home runs, and five RBI. She went 5-6 with a double
and a homer in the Lady Rams doubleheader sweep against
LeTourneau University (TX) on March 26, then batted 4-7 with
another homer and two more RBI as Wesleyan split a conference
doubleheader against Bacone on March 28.
She also collected two wins in two starts on
the week, throwing a complete game two-hitter to defeat LeTourneau
9-1, then pitching eight strong innings to defeat Bacone 5-4. She
walked one on the week while striking out eight, and did not allow
an earned run in either of her starts.
Barrilleaux, a 2002 USCAA All-American,
currently ranks 8th in the conference in batting with a .354
average. She is second in homers (3), tied for third in runs
scored (16), fourth in hits (23), and tied for eighth in RBI (10).
She also leads the conference with three triples. |
