FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore
forward Jessica Carrion scored two goals to lead the Texas Wesleyan
women's soccer team past the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma,
4-3, Saturday at Martin Field.
USAO (0-1) started the scoring in
the first half when forward Summer Holman scored on a breakaway
in the 19th minute.
Texas Wesleyan (1-0) would fight back
with a goal of their own as junior Crystal Pena sent a shot over
four USAO defenders on a free kick from just outside the box to
knot the score at 1-1. Carrion put the Lady Rams ahead as she scored
on a breakaway in 23rd minute to make the score 2-1.
Holman struck again for the Lady Drovers
when she put another one past the Lady Rams goalkeeper Katrina Fishback
to tie the score at 2-2.
Junior Jessica Elder capped off the
scoring in the first half when she scored on a penalty kick in the
39th minute to give the Lady Rams a 3-2 advantage.
In the second half, Carrion added
her second goal of the match as she beat goalkeeper Audrey Butler
on a breakaway to put the game out of reach.
"Every team in the Sooner Conference
is tough and USAO was no exception," Texas Wesleyan head coach
Steve Jones said. "Our girls gave it their all today and we
are definitely headed in the right direction."
Samantha Pecore added another goal
for USAO in the waning minutes for the final margin.
The Lady Rams will be back in action
when they travel to take East Texas Baptist Aug. 29, at 2 p.m.
